Momtrepreneur

I used to make sure I was creating unique content and uploading blog posts daily, making sure you, the reader, stayed interested, but, it’s been almost a year since my last blog post.

Over the past two years, my work has changed drastically. I used to wake up, spend the day at my computer, take the night off and start all over again the next day. Your pretty typical ‘work from home’ entrepreneur. My life revolved around my job. And I loved it. I had no idea what to expect when our baby girl came. We went through a big adjustment, and part of that was with my job. For a long time, I had no creative desire, whatsoever, or drive to get back to what I knew as ‘my creative normal.’ And, I think in part, it was because I was scared that I would never be able to have that ‘normal’ again, so I didn’t even want to try. It has taken me two years to find my confidence within my work again, it was a slow process of finding more and more time to work. Sure, I’m not working as much as I used to, my days don’t revolve around following the latest design trends, or reading all my favorite blogs, but, this new normal is starting to feel like ‘my normal’ again.

Going from an entrepreneur to ‘momentrepreneur’ felt in some ways, like starting from scratch again. But this time, I’ve got the most amazing little nugget trying to pound on my keyboard and steal all my paint brushes, all while secretly cheering me on.

All Things New

Things have been so (wonderfully) crazy over here.

Besides being busy with the little one, we moved last month!
To. the. beach. We’re stoked!

It’s been a dream of ours for a while + we decided why not? We found the perfect little rental and decided to go for it. Once we moved, and got a little settled, we flew off on vacation. Mabel got to meet all of my extended family in Wisconsin for the first time. She loved it. And so did we.

Now that we’re back and things are starting to settle, I’ve been feeling a desire to get back to work (still sticking to small projects, more on that soon), and hoping to jump back to the blog every now and then too! Now that Mabel is 6 months old (what!?), I’m feeling like we got this ‘life’ thing down. When she naps, it’s time to get stuff done!

So, hopefully this little space won’t be so quiet from now on. Even if it looks a little different than it used too…

Update!

Hey All! As you can see I’ve been MIA, and I’m sure you know why 🙂

Our little Mabel girl arrived in early March and life has changed (in a great way!) since her arrival. I haven’t jumped back into work yet but I’m starting to get a creative itch, so hopefully I’ll be around more now! Here’s a (fast) update on life in the past few months via Instagram:

+ Our girl arrived March 4th.
+ She has forever changed our lives.
+ Kayla Adams took some Newborn/Family photos of us back in March + we love every single one!
+ We showed Mabel lots of new things!
+ Kayla’s photos + Mabel’s nursery were featured on 100 Layer Cakelet.
+ We took our first family vacay to Hawaii. Babe’s first flight went well!
+ Mabel went swimming for the first time.
+ I finally got around to sending out her birth announcement (three months later) 🙂
+ She’s so much fun!

I haven’t started any full branding or web projects yet, but I’d love to begin with some smaller lettering projects. If you have any fun lettering needs, shoot me an email! I’d love to work together. hello@evablackdesign.com

Baby!

As many of you know (from my Instagram account, a few weeks ago), I’ve been super quiet around here because we’re having a baby! I’m 18 weeks pregnant and doing really well. Initially, during the first trimester, I was really wiped out, most of my energy went to my clients and resting for the babe. Which is why I’ve been pretty quiet. I’m also taking a bit of a break from my regular blogging schedule, and things might look a little different around here, but I’m so excited about this new adventure. We’ll be finding out the sex in a couple weeks. I may or may not already be planning the nursery 🙂 As of now,  I’m going to downsize my office, and fit the nursery and office together. Does anyone have experience with a nursery/office combo? Does this make working impossible?

Will share more details and ideas soon!

Drive

Where does your drive to create come from?
Why do you do what you do?

Take some time to create something, just because you love it.
